According to Dr. Aarti Nangia, Senior Consultant, Ophthalmologist, Fortis Hospital in Vasant Kunj, Delhi, there has been a rise in cases of eye infections and conjunctivitis in Delhi. It is an isolated infection of the eyes or it is accompanied by an upper respiratory tract infection like cough or cold. Because this virus is the same one that is infecting the eyes and throat.

“This is a seasonal change and along with viral infections, bacterial infections and allergies also increase. We have seen a slight increase in these cases,” said Dr Suresh Kumar, medical director of the government LNJP hospital in Delhi. When asked if these patients had any Covid-like symptoms, he said no, these patients did not have any Covid-like symptoms.

However, Dr. Nangia said that red eye infection can be called a new COVID-type epidemic because it is a viral infection (eye flu). He said that the spread of infection has increased because it spreads from one person to another. It also spreads rapidly through contact or touching. Therefore, it is important to take care of cleanliness in this disease. Doctors recommend washing hands frequently with soap and water to prevent the spread of infection.

Doctors said that this disease can be treated with the use of antibiotic eye drops, eye ointments, topical decongestants, smelling and some antibiotics. In this disease, you can also get relief for some time by applying ice pack. Symptoms include watery eyes, redness, congestion, photophobia and bleeding in the surface layer of the eye. To prevent the spread of infection, eye contact should be minimized, contact with others should be avoided, and infected school children should be isolated for 3 to 5 days, after which they may become non-infectious if treatment begins.

Children affected by eye infection in Delhi schools
