The 61st Irani Cup match between Mumbai and the Rest of India will take place at the Ekana International Stadium in Lucknow from October 1 to October 5. Musheer Khan, the star batsman, was tragically injured while traveling to Lucknow, dealing a severe blow to the reigning Ranji winners. Musheer is expected to be out for at least 16 weeks; therefore, he won’t be playing in the Irani Cup match. Angrej Raghuvanshi, the batter, is dealing with a back stress fracture; both fast bowlers Tushar Deshpande and Raghuvanshi are unlikely to be available.

Rahane and Sarfaraz Are Back?
However, Sarfaraz Khan, an Indian batter who is in the team for the second Test against Bangladesh, is expected to be freed for the Irani Cup, giving Mumbai a huge advantage going into the match. Khan will support skipper Ajnkya Rahane, who will return to the team after being left out of the Duleep Trophy selection process, and Shreyas Iyer in the middle order. Rahane has been playing well lately and even got a century in county cricket, but Shreyas Iyer’s form will be a concern. Iyer did not have a big effect with the bat during his recent participation in the Duleep Trophy.

Mumbai may have to start Prithvi Shaw and Siddhesh Lad as substitute openers. The batsman bats in the middle order, although he may have to bat up the order since Sarafarz, Iyer, and Rahane are all in that position. Shardul Thakur, an all-rounder, might make a comeback to the Mumbai team during the match.

Shardul will be hoping to get into the Indian cricket squad for the trip to Australia, and the Irani Cup will provide him an excellent chance to prove himself. Thanush Kotian and Shams Mulani, two all-round players, will also be very important. The pacers will be Royston Dias and Mohit Avasthi. The circumstances will be ideal for pacers, and Mohit and Das have the potential to cause a great deal of trouble for the Rest of India team.

Prithvi Shaw, Siddhesh Lad, Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane (c), Sarfaraz Khan, Hardik Tamore (wk), Shardul Thakur, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Royston Dias, and Mohit Avasthi are the Mumbai team’s likely Irani Cup starting lineup.
