Indian citizens from Jalandhar Punjab have paid heartfelt tributes to renowned Pakistani philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi.

In a notable gesture, a large billboard featuring Edhi’s image has been installed along a highway in the city of Jalandhar, Indian Punjab, to honor his extraordinary humanitarian contributions.

The billboard refers to him as “The richest poor man.”

Edhi, known for establishing a vast network of welfare centers throughout Pakistan, passed away on July 8, 2016, at the age of 89.

Born into a Muslim trading family in Gujarat, British India, he relocated to Pakistan following the 1947 partition. It was there that he embarked on his mission to serve humanity.

The challenges his family faced in caring for his mother, who was paralyzed and suffered from mental illness, deeply impacted him and motivated him to dedicate his life to helping others.

Edhi’s name was also included in the Guinness Book of World Records for operating the largest ambulance fleet, with 1,500 ambulances responding to emergencies and disasters, providing crucial services in areas where government support was lacking.
