The Indian hitters established a winning strategy with their aggressive attitude and purpose in the early innings, which provided a solid foundation, in a match when rain caused more than two and a half days to be lost. On the strength of it, the Indian spinners Ravindra Jadeja (3/34) Ravichandran Ashwin (3/50) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/17) tore through the Bangladeshi lineup in the second innings, putting India on the verge of an incredible victory.

India won the toss and elected to bowl first. They then proceeded to destroy Bangladesh for 233 in the first innings, which was played across the first and fourth days, with the second and third days being entirely ruined by bad weather. The Indian batsmen subsequently took a 51-run lead after scoring 285/9 (dec) at a run rate of 8.22 in only 34.4 overs in the first innings.

India shattered a number of records in the process, including the fastest team 50, 100, 150, and 200 in Test match cricket history.

With two sessions remaining, Bangladesh, who had begun the fifth and final day on a shaky 26/2, could only muster 146 in their second inning, leaving India with a goal of only 95 runs.

Following Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill’s elimination for single-digit scores, Yashaswi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli (29*) guided the Indian ship home. India needed only three runs to win when Jaiswal (51 off 45) was out, but Kohli and Rishabh Pant scored the last three runs to light up the Indian camp.

India thumped Pakistan by 280 runs in the first Test match in Chennai.

With 74.24 percentage points after the victory, India continues to hold the top spot in the ICC World Test Championship points table (WTC). Bangladesh is now ranked seventh on the rankings as a result of the series defeat.

Day five saw the first wicket fall, Mominul Hasque (2), who went out to Ashwin in the first innings, while Shadman Islam (50 off 101 balls) maintained the fort at the other end.

After Shanto missed a reverse sweep off Jadeja to be dismissed, everything went wrong for Bangladesh. Shanto and Islam combined for a 55-run partnership for the fourth wicket (19 off 37 balls).

Then, in a spell that mesmerized the batsmen, Jadeja destroyed the Bangladesh middle order by taking the wickets of Shanto, Litton Das (1), and Shakib Al Hasan (0).

In the second ball he faced, Shakib gave Jadeja an easy return catch in what may have been his last Test innings.

After that, Bumrah entered the fray to dismiss Taijul Islam (0) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (9), ending Bangladesh’s innings at the start of lunch when he trapped Mushfiqur Rahim (37).

Bangladesh 233 & 146 (Muhfiqur Rahim 37, Shadman Islam 50, Jasprit Bumrah 3/17, Ravindra Jadeja 3/34, and Ravichandran Ashwin 3/50) were defeated by India. Yashaswi Jaiswal 51, Virat Kohli 29*, Mehidy Hasan Miraz 2/4), 285/9 dec & 98/3
