The Alhamra Ajoka Theatre Workshop has added an additional performance of its popular play, Oonth Patang, after receiving an overwhelming response from the public. Originally set for a single performance, the play will now be staged again on Sunday, October 6, at Alhamra Hall 2, giving more theatre lovers the opportunity to witness the unique production.

The first show, which took place earlier this week, drew widespread praise for its engaging storytelling and standout performances by the workshop students. On the same evening, prominent writer-actor Feryal Gauhar and Lahore Arts Council Chairman Razi Ahmad awarded certificates to the participants, acknowledging their exceptional work. The cast included Dildaar Mustafa, Abdullah Saif, Sadeed Zia, Eisha tur Raazia, Shams ul Haq, Abu Huraira, Shafeeh Sheikh, Saima Sajad, Aiman Munir, Saif-ur-Rehman, Javed Bhatti, Hanad Ahmad, and Munib-ur-Rehman.

Oonth Patang is a thought-provoking piece created by the workshop students, inspired by a real-life incident where a camel was punished by a landlord in a brutal act of injustice. The play tells the story of Sassi, the camel, seeking justice against the cruel wadera, while intertwining with the legendary folklore of Sassi Punoon.

Set against the backdrop of South Punjab, the production features folk dances and Sufi poetry, adding cultural richness to its compelling narrative. A large camel puppet, designed by student Dildar Mustafa and his team, was a highlight of the show, adding an impressive visual element to the performance.

Ajoka’s Executive Director Shahid Nadeem, along with Razi Ahmad and Feryal Gauhar, praised the students’ performances and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting emerging talent through partnerships with institutions dedicated to meaningful theatre.
