Delhi Delhi: Spotify has today announced a new feature for its users. The feature, called Offline Backup, is available only to premium subscribers and gives users access to recently listened songs even if they are out of the network coverage area or unable to connect to the internet.

It's worth noting that paid subscribers of Spotify can already download songs and podcasts in the app. However, for this feature, users will have to download each track manually. In contrast, the company's offline backup feature enables users to create playlists of recently listened songs, without any manual intervention. This playlist updates dynamically based on the user's most recently played songs and can be accessed even in areas where there is no internet connectivity.

Spotify says that instead of relying on artificial intelligence (AI) like the platform's Daylist feature, the Offline Backup feature relies on the on-device cache to create a list of recently played songs. Spotify says that using the cache not only saves data, but also saves storage space.

Spotify wrote in a blog post, “Offline Backup takes your queued and recently streamed tracks and creates an easy-to-access playlist that is unique to you. To do this, we integrate your regular “Includes tracks already stored on your device (also known as cache) as part of your listening.” The company says that while offline backup playlists are automatically updated, Spotify Premium subscribers can filter songs within the playlist based on artist, mood, and genre.
