The BCCI had recently released the rules and regulations for IPL 2025, where a team can retain a maximum of six players before the mega auctions.

If a team retains six players, it will have to shell out Rs. 79 crore, and they will then not have the Right to Match (RTM) card at the auction.

The first-choice and fourth-choice retentions earn 18 crore each, while the second and fourth-choice will earn 14,11 crore respectively.
Virat Kohli has been the first-choice retention of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) since 2011, is set to earn Rs. 18 crore in this season of IPL.

However, Virat won’t be the first player who will be retained for this huge amount as there has been only one person in history of IPL to have been retained for more than Rs. 18 crore.
Sam Curran from Punjab Kings (KXIP) holds the record with Rs. 18.50 crore.
