According to a report published by Forbes Ronnie Screwvalas net worth is $1.55 billion (roughly Rs 13000 crore). With this Ronnie became the only billionaire associated with Hindi cinema. Coming in second is Bhushan Kumar whose net worth is just under a billion. According to the Hurun Rich List Bhushan’s family has a combined net worth of $1.2 billion though other stakeholders also contribute to that wealth. Did you know Ronnie Screwvala once sold toothbrushes? Yes you read that right. Ronnie didn’t always live a lavish lifestyle. There was a rough patch in his life when he started a business as a toothbrush manufacturer which he set up in the 1970s. Eventually Ronnie transitioned to the cable business during the cable TV boom in India in the early 1980s. Later in 1990 he invested ₹37000 to establish UTV. Starting as a television production company UTV later expanded into a leading film producer. It gained popularity with beloved TV shows like Shanti and Sea Hawks before transitioning to movie production delivering hits such as Swades Jodhaa Akbar Fashion Barfi and Chennai Express. In 2012 Ronnie hit the jackpot when he sold his company to Disney for a billion dollars. This was one of the biggest deals in cinema history. He went on to establish RSVP Movies a new production company that has produced films such as Uri and Kedarnath among others.
