Hanoi has surpassed five other rivals including Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, and Tokyo to be crowned “Asia’s Best Culinary City Destination” at this year’s World Culinary Awards.

Recently, Hanoi has emerged on the global tourism map, with three of Vietnam’s seven Michelin-starred restaurants located in the capital.

The restaurants, Hibana by Koki, Tam Vi, and Gia, all earned their first Michelin stars in the Michelin Guide 2023 and successfully retained them this year.

The World Culinary Awards is the sister event of the World Travel Awards, launched in 1993 to recognize excellence in the travel and tourism industry.

The results are based on votes from industry experts and globetrotters.

Last year, Hanoi surpassed Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, and Kyoto to be honored as Asia’s Best Emerging Culinary City at the awards.

Earlier this year, the Vietnamese capital was also ranked among the top 15 culinary destinations in the world by readers of Tripadvisor, the world’s largest travel guidance platform.

Hanoi’s renowned dishes, such as pho, bun cha (rice vermicelli with grilled pork and fresh herbs), cha cha (grilled fish), and pho cuon (fresh spring rolls), have gained international fame.
