Ingredients for making black gram curry

One big cup black gram soaked in water overnight, 2 medium sized onions finely chopped, 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste, ½ teaspoon turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon red chili powder, 1 teaspoon coriander powder, ½ teaspoon cumin powder, ½ spoon garam masala, 1 spoon dry mango powder, a pinch of asafoetida, 2 cups tomato puree, 3 tablespoons chopped coriander, 2 green chillies cut lengthwise, 1 spoon desi ghee, 1 spoon kasuri methi, 3 spoons oil, 1 bay leaf, 1 inch Take a piece of cinnamon, 1 large cardamom, 1 star anise, 4 cloves, 2 green cardamoms, 1 teaspoon cumin, salt as per taste and water as required.

Black Gram Vegetable Recipe

  • First of all, take soaked gram and wash it well and put it in the cooker, add 1/2 teaspoon salt and 3 cups of water and pressure cook till 6 whistles.
  • Then place the pan on the gas and add oil to it and heat it.
  • Then add cumin, cinnamon, black cardamom, star anise, cloves, green cardamom, bay leaf and green chilli and fry for a minute.
  • Now add chopped onion, ginger and garlic paste and fry the onion until it turns golden.
  • Then add asafoetida, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and dry mango powder and fry all the spices on low flame till the oil leaves.
  • Then add tomato puree and salt to the spices and fry for some time.
  • Now take out the gram from the cooker and do not throw away the water but keep it aside.
  • Now take half a cup of boiled gram and put it in a pan, mix it well with spices and let it cook for a minute or two.
  • After this, put the remaining gram in the pan and mix it well.
  • Now keep in mind the thickness of the gravy of your choice, add gram water to it and cover and cook on low flame for ten minutes.
  • Finally add green coriander, desi ghee, Kasuri fenugreek and garam masala and cook for a minute and turn off the gas.
  • Your hot black gram curry is ready. You can serve it with roti, paratha or rice.
