Dharmendra has played lead roles in both the films Sholay and Mera Gaon Mera Desh. He said in an interview given to Zoom, “I have worked in both the films. I did not see anything similar. Yes, the villain of one was Jabbar Singh and the other was Gabbar Singh. This thing does not make those films the same. “Maybe they are cousins, who knows?”

Sholay and my village my country

Comparing Mera Gaon Mera Desh and Sholay, Amit Aryan said, “Sholay depicts a man whose hands have been chopped off and his family has been destroyed by a dacoit. He tries to take his revenge through someone else. In Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Vinod Khanna played the role of dacoit Jabbar Singh, who became Gabbar Singh in Sholay.”

He said that actor Jayant had played the role of a retired soldier in Mera Gaon Mera Desh, whose hands were amputated. There is a retired police officer in Sholay, in this also his hands are chopped off. In Mera Gaon Mera Desh Mein, Jayant's character asks Dharmendra to take revenge, which is initially refused but in the end this is what happens. Dharmendra, another character Amitabh Bachchan was added in Sholay.
