Counting of votes for Haryana Assembly elections is going to start shortly today. This time, voting for all 90 seats of the state has been done at once on October 5. More than 65 percent voting has been recorded in this election. In the elections, keen eyes are fixed on Kalka assembly seat of Haryana, which comes under Panchkula district.

This is a general category assembly seat. This seat also has its own political history. Assembly elections were held here for the first time in 1967. Elections have been held on this seat 14 times so far. This time the contest on this seat is mainly between BJP, Congress, JJP and INLD.

Gyan Chand Gupta is in the fray from BJP, Chandra Mohan from Congress, Sushil Garg from JJP and Kshitij Choudhary from INLD. Many of its independents have also contested the elections, but the contest seems to be between big political parties only.

The Congress party had won this seat in the 2019 assembly elections. Pradeep Chaudhary was elected MLA. Earlier in the 2014 assembly elections, this seat was in the possession of BJP and Latika Sharma had won. In the 14 elections held so far, Congress has won this seat 7 times, while independent candidates had won twice. BJP's victory in 2014 was its first victory. Apart from this, INLD, Lok Dal and Janata Party have also won once each.

How was the 2019 assembly elections?

Talking about the last assembly elections, Pradeep Chaudhary of Congress got a total of 57,948 votes. Whereas, BJP was at second place and its candidate Latika Sharma got 52,017 votes. The difference between victory and defeat between these two was 5,931 votes. In the elections held at that time, 128031 votes were cast on this seat. On this seat, Congress got 45.26 percent votes and BJP got 40.63 percent votes. JJP was at third place which got only 7739 votes.

What does the caste equation say on the seat?

Talking about the caste equation in this seat, the Scheduled Caste population here is around 19.33 percent. In 2019, the total number of voters in the seat was 1,76,698. There were 93454 male and 83235 female voters. 12 voters were also of third gender. Earlier, in the 2014 assembly elections, the total number of voters was 157064, out of which 83776 were male and 73288 were female voters. In 2009, the total number of voters in the seat was 122579.
