Ratan Tata Passes Away at 86: Final Rites to be Held with State Honors

Mumbai : Ratan Naval , the honorary chairman of Tata Sons, passed away at the age of 86. The news of his demise was announced late on Wednesday night. He was undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai due to age-related ailments.

His mortal remains were taken to his residence around 2 AM on Thursday. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that Tata will be given a state funeral.

His relatives have informed that Tata’s body will be kept at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in South Mumbai from 10 AM to 4 PM on Thursday for public viewing.

In 2008, Ratan Tata was awarded India’s second-highest civilian honor, the Padma Vibhushan. Earlier, in 2000, he was conferred with the Padma Bhushan.

N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, expressed deep sorrow over Tata’s passing, saying, “We are deeply saddened to lose Ratan Tata. For the group, Tata was much more than a chairman. For me, he was a mentor, a guide, and a friend.”
