Kolkata Rape Murder Case: Fasting doctor’s condition worsens, admitted to hospital

One of the doctors, who was on a fast unto death in protest against the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, was admitted to the hospital on Thursday night after his condition deteriorated.

The doctor has been identified as Aniket Mahato, who is one of the doctors sitting on fast unto death since Saturday evening. Senior doctor Suvarna Goswami said that Aniket's health has deteriorated. He was taken to RG hospital and will be admitted to ICU.

Demand for justice for the victim

Aniket Mahato and some others have been agitating for the last two months demanding justice for the victim. Another agitating doctor present with Mahato said that his pulse was running at a lower rate than normal and his other health parameters were also not normal.

A team of four doctors examined

The state health department had sent a team of four specialist doctors to the site in the Esplanade area where the doctors are on hunger strike to assess the health condition of the seven doctors who have been on hunger strike for the last five days.

Doctors are in serious condition

After investigation, the team of doctors had said that the physical condition of two of the protesting doctors had deteriorated. The team had said that both of them needed to be admitted to the hospital. Doctors had told that the presence of ketone bodies has started appearing in Aniket's body. The amount of ketone bodies is 3+. If ketone bodies increase, the patient may go into coma due to keto acidosis. Gradually body parts may stop working. Aniket is already suffering from liver disease.
