According to reports, a decision can be taken to increase the DA of Central government employees by 3%. This possible increase in dearness allowance means that more than 1 crore central government employees and pensioners will get their salary for the month of October with three months' arrears and increased DA.
At present, DA is 50% and if the government increases it by 3%, then it can become 53% from July 1, 2024. This will greatly benefit the central government employees.
The Centre increases dearness allowance (DA) twice a year, effective from January and July. However, it is usually announced around the months of March and September. For example, the January DA hike is usually announced around Holi, which falls in March, while the July DA hike is announced around Diwali, which usually falls in October or November every year.
Dearness Allowance is an important part of the salary of government employees, which aims to reduce the impact of inflation on employees. It is determined on the basis of the All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI), which keeps an eye on the changes in retail prices.
