The Personnel Department of the Central Government has approved it.

The Indian Express news said that now the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) of the Central Government has said in a letter sent to the Chairman of the Railway Board that after considering the proposal of the Ministry of Railways, it has been decided to restore the Engineering Services Examination (ESE). Now after this decision of the department, the candidates will have to take the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) of UPSC for the recruitment to the posts of Group A in the Railways. Recruitment is to be done on 225 posts

According to the news published in the Indian Express, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has said that the recruitment to 225 posts in the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) will now be done through the UPSC Engineering Services Examination (UPSC ESE 2025). Let us tell you that new engineers in the railways will be appointed as IRMS (Civil), IRMS (Mechanical), IRMS (Electrical), IRMS (S&T), and IRMS (Stores). The DoPT letter states that for the recruitment to the technical and non-technical posts of the Ministry of Railways, the Department of Personnel approves the proposal of the Ministry of Railways in which it has been said to conduct the departmental examination through UPSC-ESE and UPSC CSE.

After the approval of DoPT, the Ministry of Railways wrote a letter to UPSC, informing about its decision to recruit through ESE and CSE. Along with this, UPSC also talked about releasing the notification for recruitment of engineers on the website of UPSC. In such a situation, now recruitment for Group A posts in Railways will be done through UPSC only.
