American Danielle Collins, ranked ninth in the world, has changed her mind about quitting at the end of the season. The 30-year-old said in a Thursday social media post that she will continue to play tennis until 2025.

Collins, who was called “Danimal” because of how aggressively she played, said she would be stopping at the end of the 2024 season to start a family. This came after she lost in the second round of the Australian Open in January.

Collins wrote on her Instagram page, “Things have not gone as planned. I was very excited and eager to end my tennis career on a high note this year and get right into the next part of my life.”

In other words, the Danimal story is still not over. In 2025, I’ll be back on tour.

Collins talked about her health problems over the last few months, including being diagnosed with endometriosis. She also hinted that her plans to start a family had not gone as smoothly as she had thought.

“Dealing with endometriosis and fertility is a huge challenge for many women, and it is one I am currently facing, but I have full faith in the team I am working with,” she said.

“It’s taking a little longer than I thought.”

Collins was named to the US team for the first mixed-team United Cup event of the season on Friday. This makes it very likely that she will be at Melbourne Park in mid-January for the first Grand Slam of the year.

When she made it to the final of the Australian Open in 2022, she had her best major finish. She lost to Ash Barty, who is now retired.

In 2024, she had some success, winning titles in Miami and Charleston. But she got heatstroke at the Olympics in Paris and lost in the first round of the U.S. Open, where she turned down a big send-off at Flushing Meadows.

“Life isn’t always certain, but I hope to build on my success in 2024 and keep playing until I have more information about my own fertility journey,” she said.

“Today, the only thing that is certain is that there will be more epic matches.”
