‘Since 11 years, date after date, I am tired…’ Court sentenced the woman to 1 day’s punishment

A strange case has come to light in Gwalior. In Gwalior, a 71 year old woman has been sentenced to one day imprisonment and fine. Gwalior court has given this punishment to the woman in the ganja smuggling case. The magistrate had sent the case to the trial court after hearing it for 11 years, hearing which the woman became very sad. During the hearing in the court, the woman had pointed out the problem of the long process of giving the statement. In such a situation, the court has given this punishment considering the age and circumstances of the woman.

During the hearing in Gwalior court, a 71 year old accused woman said in the court that Sir, I am tired of fighting the case for the last 11 years. Now the case is being sent to the trial court saying that the quantity of seized ganja is not 950 grams but 1 kilogram. In such a situation, the trial will start again and statements will be recorded. I am 71 years old and cannot fight the case anymore. I accept all the allegations made by the police. Considering the age of the woman and her pain, the court immediately decided the case by imposing one day's punishment and a fine of Rs 10,000.

What is the matter?

The matter is related to ganja smuggling. According to the information, the Old Cantonment police station had seized one kilogram of ganja from Badami Bai's house in Hazira on August 5, 2013. Police had received information through an informer that Badami Bai was illegally keeping ganja in the house. In such a situation, when the police raided, the quantity of ganja seized was 950 grams i.e. less than 1 kilogram. In such a situation, the case was heard in the Trial Magistrate Court.

The case continued for 11 years

The police presented the challan in this case on 11 September 2013. The trial of the case continued in the Magistrate Court for 11 years. When the weighing panchnama was seen, it was found that the total weight of the ganja including the bag was 1 kg, after which the magistrate transferred the case to the special court.
