A 50-year record has been broken in the India-New Zealand Test being played in Bengaluru. This record has been broken by two New Zealand batsmen, Rachin Ravindra and Tim Southee. Both of them not only batted brilliantly in the first innings against India, but also did something amazing, which had not happened in the last 50 years. Rachin Ravindra and Tim Southee have now written the record in the name of West Indies in the name of New Zealand.

Now you must be wondering what amazing work Rachin Ravindra and Tim Southee have done? In which case did these two destroy the record maintained for 50 years? By doing this, these two batsmen of the Kiwi team have broken the record of the biggest partnership for the 8th wicket by a foreign team on Indian soil in a Test match.

50 year old record broken

The record of the highest partnership for the 8th wicket in a Test played on Indian soil was earlier in the name of West Indies' Vivi Richards and Keith Boyce. Both of them had made a partnership of 124 runs for the 8th wicket against India in the Test match played in Delhi in 1974. But, New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra and Tim Southee have now broken this record.

In the first innings of Bengaluru Test against India, Rachin Ravindra and Tim Southee together added 137 runs for the 8th wicket. This partnership between the two took place on 132 balls, in which Rachin Ravindra scored 66 runs in 59 balls, while Tim Southee scored 65 runs in 73 balls.

Apart from breaking the record of 50 years, he did other wonders too.

Apart from breaking the 50-year-old record of 8th wicket partnership, Rachin Ravindra and Tim Southee did even more wonders in the Bengaluru Test. Rachin Ravindra faced 157 balls and scored 134 runs, which is his first Test century not only against India but also on foreign soil. With this, he also became the first New Zealand batsman to score a Test century on Indian soil after 12 years. The last time Ross Taylor scored a century was in 2012. Talking about Tim Southee, due to the 4 sixes he hit during his half-century innings, he has left Virender Sehwag behind in terms of hitting the most sixes in Test cricket.
