A case of sexual harassment of a female guard of Delhi AIIMS has come to light. The female guard has accused the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of AIIMS of sexual harassment and caste discrimination. After this allegation of the female guard, the leading medical institute has started investigation.

The woman guard has alleged that when she had gone to meet the Chief Security Officer regarding her duty roster, the officer sexually harassed her. Apart from this, the woman says that the officer also made casteist remarks against her.

Delhi AIIMS constituted investigation team

According to the office memorandum issued by the institute on August 15, the investigation will be conducted by Dean Academics Dr KK Verma and Dr Puneet Kaur. KK Verma is the head of the committee formed for redressal of SC/ST/OBC grievances of the institute. Dr. Puneet Kaur is the head of the Department of Biophysics at Delhi AIIMS. She is also the chairperson of the Internal Complaint Committee against Sexual Harassment.

At the same time, both the committees have been asked to file a preliminary report along with evidence material within seven days from the date of issue of the memorandum. The lady guard had gone to the Chief Security Officer (CSO) regarding her duty time table. During this, the officer sexually harassed her and made casteist remarks. At the same time, Delhi AIIMS officials refused to comment on this matter.

The issue of contract workers is important in the RG KAR case.

In the RG KAR Hospital rape and murder case of Kolkata, organizations like AIIMS, FIMA and IMA are also adamant on the issue of security. Last day, during the hearing in the Supreme Court, Kolkata Police was reprimanded for the appointment of contract workers in the campus. The apex court said in strong words that security in the hospital cannot be left to any contract workers. An answer was sought from the police regarding the process related to its appointment and qualification.

Sanjay Roy, accused in the brutality case against a trainee doctor in Kolkata, was a contract worker. During the hearing on Tuesday, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud questioned why there were no contractual employees and regular policemen on security duty in the hospital. Also stressed on creating a legal process for the recruitment of civilian volunteers in the state.
