The ladder to success is not a staircase with twists and turns, it is like a bumpy mountain that contains ups and downs, many times you do not know where you are going but if you stay focused you reach heights you may never even dream of. This is what a growth mindset teaches us, to never give up and to find different ways to keep being better. Children give up too easily when things get hard, but we as parents must teach them that growing means doing difficult tasks. There are many ways you can teach your children a growth mindset, here are some you should try.

Encourage effort over inborn talentMany people naturally find studying and focusing easier while many kids struggle to do the same. Instead of saying, "You're so smart," try, "You worked really hard on that." This way they will understand that their hard work pays off not a talent they were born with! Teach them to embrace challengesThey will face many challenges when they start putting themselves out there. It is very easy for them to get discouraged from doing better. Help your child view challenges as chances to learn and grow, teach them that even when they fail, there is much to learn! Cultivate curiosity in themChildren are naturally very inquisitive and curious, instead of being annoyed with their questions, answer them and motivate them to think more! Encourage your child to think critically and explore different perspectives all the time, not only will they learn how to find solutions but they will also learn critical thinking skills. Teach perseverance to your childrenWhen it comes to challenges, setbacks are natural but you must learn not to give up easy. For kids it is a bit more difficult to learn the what are achievable goals and what aren’t. Help your child set achievable goals and celebrate their progress, remind them that success often requires effort and patience. Provide supportive feedbackConstructive critisism can often negatively affect people as they feel like you are looking down at them. But when done a certain way, it can be a very positve thing for children. Offer constructive feedback that focuses on their efforts and areas for improvement. Model a growth mindsetYou must show your children that no matter how old you get, learning never stops and it is always good to learn something new! Share your own learning experiences with them and let your child see you taking on new challenges and striving for improvement. Foster a love of learningWhen you punish your child for not studying and make it a negative thing, they will run from it! Create a positive enviroment with learning by making it enjoyable and engaging for the child. Let them express how they like to learn and try different ways of thinking.
