Maharajganj town of Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh is slowly returning towards normalcy. There was excitement in the markets of the district on Friday. Jumma prayers also concluded peacefully. However, due to demolition notices being pasted on the houses, people are in panic due to the fear of bulldozer action. Police on Friday arrested 26 more accused in the communal violence case. So far 87 accused have been arrested. These include Ramgopal's murderers Sarfaraz and Talim.
According to the police, so far 87 people from both the communities have been arrested in the Maharajganj violence case. Earlier, the police had arrested 61 people. Ram Gopal died in the violence on 13 October. The police had registered 11 cases from 13 to 16 October. These include 6 named and about 1000 unknown people. These arrests have been made in connection with these cases and fear of breach of peace.
The normal life of the people in Bahraich district is back on track. On Friday, Friday prayers were offered peacefully in all the mosques of the district amid tight security arrangements. There was hustle and bustle in all the markets of the district in the evening. Peace seems to be restored in the district. There is still silence at the place where the violence took place. Here, people are scared due to demolition notices being pasted on the houses. Many houses are still lying vacant. Those who fled due to fear of violence have not returned. There is still fear in their mind.
On October 13, there was a dispute between two groups in Maharajganj over the DJ playing an objectionable song during the immersion procession of Maa Durga idol. After this, Ram Gopal Mishra was killed in the incident of stone pelting and firing. After the incident, a video of Ram Gopal also went viral in which he is seen climbing on the roof of the house of another community and tearing their flag. Many were also injured in this incident. After this, a crowd of thousands of people gathered with sticks in their hands at the funeral of Ram Gopal. The mob carried out incidents of vandalism and arson in shops and houses of other communities. Meanwhile, the crowd continued to create unrest for several hours. Hospitals and bike showrooms were burnt.
