Twelve con artists were detained when a phony phone center in Lucknow was discovered

Twelve cybercriminals were taken into custody after a phony contact center was discovered here, according to authorities on Sunday.

On October 19, 12 cyber fraudsters operating out of an apartment in Everest Enclave, Sector 18 of Vrindavan Yojana in Lucknow, were successfully captured by the police team of the PGI police station and the surveillance team of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, East.

After a tip, the suspects were taken into custody. Authorities found a significant number of electronics during the raid, including 17 mobile phones, two airfiber units, two routers, five headphones, two mice, and eleven computers. They also found a Samsung tablet.

The cybercriminals targeted international citizens, mostly from the US and Canada, using a sophisticated approach.They would purposefully install glitches or faults into the victims’ computers, resulting in pop-up windows appearing.

According to the statement, the con artists would get in touch with the impacted people under the guise of technical support representatives when they tried to fix the problem.

The accused would get remote access to the victims’ devices while posing as a computer troubleshooter. They would then allegedly repair the nonexistent difficulties by forcing the people to make payments, often in the form of gift cards or cryptocurrencies. The victims suffered large financial losses as a consequence of these fraudulent activities, the statement said.

Sections 318(4) (cheating), 319(2) (cheating by personation), 316(2) (criminal breach of trust), 338 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc.), 336(3) (forgery), 340(2) (forging document or electronic record and using it as genuine), 61(2) (criminal conspiracy), and 111 (organized crime) of the BNS and the IT Act have all been applied to in this case.

Chandan, also known as Ricky, from Kanpur; Mohan Shyam Sharma from Bharatpur, Rajasthan; Utkarsh Gold Smith from Lucknow; Neeraj Kumar from Rae Bareli; Karan Singh from Lucknow; Tarun Gupta from Santa Kabir Nagar; Neeraj Pandey from Delhi; Siddharth Kashyap from Gonda; Rituraj Gupta from Lucknow; Somnath Singh from Bhahraich; Virat Kumar from Chandauli; and Ramjanak from Basti are the names of the arrested accused individuals. The statement said that attempts are being made to find out each accused person’s criminal past.
