‘A major hub for medical care’: Modi upon the inauguration of the eye hospital

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked previous administrations for overlooking eastern Uttar Pradesh, stating that while Kashi has long been known as a spiritual and religious hub, it would soon become a major hub for healthcare.

Speaking at the RJ Sankara Eye Hospital’s opening event in his Varanasi Lok Sabha seat was the prime minister. While reciting the Sanskrit couplet “Tamaso ma jyotirgamaya (lead me from darkness to light)”, Modi expressed his gratitude for returning to Varanasi and described himself as “blessed”. “For a long time, Kashi’s identity has been that of a centre of religion and spirituality but now it is also set to emerge as a big centre of healthcare with various top-of-the-line health treatment facilities now available in Varanasi,” added the prime minister. After officially opening the eye hospital, he said, “In the last ten years, 25 crore people have emerged from poverty and that is why our government is paying special attention to ensure people remain healthy.” “I just returned from visiting amazing eye facility, which combines modernism with spirituality. Both youngsters and the elderly would be served by this facility, Modi stated. The nation’s fourteenth hospital under the management of Kanchi Math is the RJ Sankara Eye Hospital.

 

Before the inauguration, the prime minister had a meeting with the Kanchi Shankaracharya. Additionally, he offered prayers to the statue of the late Shankaracharya. According to sources connected to the Kanchi Math, the R J Sankara Eye Hospital would help residents of 20 districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh as well as those residing in bordering regions of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Bihar.
