Police in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, have caught 12 people and shut down a fake foreign call center that was involved in computer fraud. Police raided a flat in the Everest Enclave area of Sector-18, Vrindavan Yojana, on Saturday based on a tip-off. The flat is under the control of the PGI police station. The suspects were reportedly involved in online scams that targeted people from other countries, mostly from the US and Canada.

A lot of electronic gear was taken by the police during the raid. This included 11 computers, laptop chargers, a tablet, two Wi-Fi units, two routers, five headphones, and 17 cell phones. The police statement says that the hackers got pop-up ads by intentionally putting bugs or mistakes into the computers of their victims. The scammers would call the victims, claiming to be technical support staff, when they tried to fix the problem.

Although they were pretending to help, the thieves would get into the victims’ computers and then demand money to fix the fake problems. They were able to get money from people abroad who didn’t know what was going on by using this method. The cops have now taken steps to find out how big the plan was and take more civil action against those who were involved.
