“In Pune, an out-of-form batter might play,” Parthiv Patel explains after KL Rahul might have batted at number three

In spite of KL Rahul’s inconsistent record, which has raised doubts over his place in India’s playing XI, former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel has said that he would still support Rahul to play in the second Test matches against New Zealand in Pune. Against South Africa in December of last year, Rahul has been batting at No. 6, where he has amassed 234 runs and one century.

Regretfully, Rahul has been having trouble lately, and that persisted into the Bengaluru Test. The local boy was supposed to score well, but in two innings, he could manage just a duck and twelve runs.

Rahul, who made a century in the Rainbow Nation last year, is preferred to play at No. 6, despite having the opportunity to play at 3 due to Shubman Gill’s injury. With Virat Kohli playing at 3 and Sarfaraz Khan at 4, Rahul, however, remained at 6.

“I’d still want to play KL Rahul. I think this is because of the team’s support for him and their philosophy. Speaking on Sports 18, Parthiv said, “KL Rahul could have batted at No. 3, but the team management made it clear they don’t want to change his batting position.”

Gill is expected to be ready for the second Test in Pune, which will take place between Rahul and Sarfaraz. The general consensus is that Sarfaraz would bat at six and the former at three, with Rahul being dropped because of his bad record.

Rahul only had one appearance in Pune, that being against Australia in 2017. In his two innings, he scored 64 and 10. In the match, India’s first innings total of a pitiful 104 runs was led by him when captain Kohli was removed for a two-ball duck.
