Amelia, 24, led the way in scoring in the final at the Dubai International Stadium with 43 before grabbing a crucial three-fer with her leg-spin to enable New Zealand to win by an unprecedented 32 runs and claim Player of the Match.

In addition to hitting 143 runs with the bat, which was sufficient to win her the Player of the Tournament title, she ultimately ended with 15 scalps, the most wickets taken by a bowler in any Women’s T20 World Cup edition.

“She achieved her aim of being the Player of the Tournament, which is a little secret. She has very high standards for both herself and the nation in terms of what she wants to accomplish.

She really is a player of a lifetime. She will be the captain of New Zealand in the future, as I have said year after year, and to play like that, in my opinion, just shows so much character,” Katey stated on the ICC’s Digital Daily program.

After finishing second in the 2009 and 2010 Women’s T20 World Cups, Katey, a skilled wicketkeeper-batter for New Zealand from 2003 to 2022 before moving into the commentary box, continued to praise the White Ferns for giving it their best to win the tournament for the first time.

“Melie Kerr, Suzie Bates, and Sophie Devine are three individuals who had dreamt of this since they were little. Given that half of them had cramps while playing on the field, I believe they will be in shock. They’ve really given it their all, and this bunch of players is very proud of themselves.”
