Huge Android announcement will make your Galaxy phone look very inferior this week

Android devices are set for a massive speed boost this week that could make your current smartphone look massively inferior. Tech giant Qualcomm is about to hold its yearly Snapdragon summit on the island of Maui in Hawaii and one of the biggest announcements from this global event looks almost certain to be the launch of a new chip.

That might not sound that thrilling but Snapdragon processors power many of the world's Android phones including those made by Samsung, Motorola and Sony.

The current flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 brain is already regarded as one of the best in business but the upcoming 8 Gen 4 could take power and efficiency to a whole new level.

That means future phones will not only be able to perform tasks much faster but also use far less power from the battery in the process.

Snapdragon chips also help those devices in your pocket take photos, play games and perform AI tasks without slowing things down so expect some big gains from these departments as well.

Full details about the next generation of processors are expected within the next 24 hours along with news on which phones will get the chipset first.

Firms that could adopt this include Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi, Motorola and Honor - it's likely we'll find out more this week.

One thing we do know is that phones made by and Apple won't feature the Snapdragon. Google's Pixel uses its own Tensor chip and the is also powered by Apple-built processors so don't expect to see the new Snapdragon in any of these phones.
