ITV has released an update on an Australian drama that shattered the broadcaster's streaming records. The Twelve, which was the most streamed premiere on ITVX, has now been given the go-ahead for a third series.

The legal drama has been a massive success with UK viewers, having been streamed over 26 million times since its first series debuted on ITVX in February 2023. This makes it one of the platform's most successful dramas to date. The second series was streamed this year.

Peaky Blinders and Jurassic Park actor stars as criminal barrister Brett Colby in the first two series, each highlighting two different cases.

The initial trial centred on a woman accused of murdering her niece, while the second trial involved two former lovers charged with the murder of farm owner Bernice Price, portrayed by Kris McQuade, known for her roles in Rosehaven and the horror film Cargo, reports .

The series is viewed from the perspective of twelve ordinary jurors tasked with evaluating the evidence and determining the defendants' guilt or innocence. Each juror is dealing with their own personal dramas.

Frances O'Connor also stars in The Twelve as senior solicitor Meredith Nelson-Moore. She directed the 2022 film Emily, based on the life of writer Emily Bronte.

It has now been confirmed that The Twelve has been commissioned by the FOXTEL Group for another series. Warner Bros, International Production Australia and Easy Tiger produce the show, with Fifth Season handling global distribution.

The series will follow Brett as he delves into a cold case murder trial that took place in Margaret River, Western Australia. Building anticipation among fans, he revealed: "With many twists and turns and surprises, it will keep you guessing until the end."

The Twelve is a reworking of the 2019 Belgian miniseries De twaalf, created by Sanne Nuyens and Bert Van Dael.

The Twelve series one and two are available on ITVX
