Vasan Bala opens up about Jigra’s box office failure: ‘Alia Bhatt could have been…’

Vasan Bala the director of Jigra talked about the movies box office performance which was the lowest in actor Alia Bhatts career. Taking full responsibility for his films box office performance the filmmaker granted others a free pass in his most recent interview. The movie which reportedly cost Rs 90 crore to make hasnt done well at the box office. According to the entertainment monitoring website Sacnilk it has only made Rs 27 crore net in India and Rs 44 crore gross globally. Speaking to Fever FM Bala claimed that Alia Bhatt had trusted him to create a movie that would do well at the box office and that he ought to have done so. The 31-year-old made a decision to star in his movie and the rest was up to him the director added expressing gratitude. Vasan Bala said She is the first choice for everyone. She could have been on any other film set but Jigra during that time. So she has to make that choice. And she has trusted me with that choice. So it is my responsibility to deliver box office because we are in the business of filmmaking also. So which is why I need to analyse. Kuch toh hua hai na (Something has happened right)? Something has happened where people have stayed away something that they have not bought something that they didnt feel the need to come to the theatre. If at all any other actor decides to give their time his or her then you know make it worth it Vasan Bala added. Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video another release starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri presented a fierce challenge to the movie which stars Alia Bhatt as an older sister battling to save her brother Vedang Raina from a foreign prison. Actor Vedang Raina made his major Bollywood debut in the prison-break action drama Jigra. Despite the difficulties in both films Rajkummar Raos film did better at the box office. Vasan Balas fourth movie is Jigra. Peddlers his debut film has not yet been released in theatres. Abhimanyu Dassani and Radhika Madan featured in his second movie Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota which received positive reviews in 2019. In 2022 his third film Monica O My Darling which starred Rajkummar Rao Huma Qureshi and Radhika Apte stunned movie enthusiasts when it was released on Netflix. Following the negative box office reception of his most recent picture Jigra and the ensuing controversies filmmaker Vasan Bala deactivated his X (formerly known as Twitter) account. The director was aggressively defending the Alia Bhatt movie on social media interacting with trolls and critics who were focusing on him because of the movies failure.
