Jay Shah has been holding the post of BCCI secretary for the last 5 years. Now he is going to take over the post of ICC chairman. He will take over the reins of ICC from December 1. Jay Shah was elected as the new boss of ICC in August and now about a month before his joining, a change has been suggested in the rules for the post of chairman. If these are accepted, then he can remain its boss for 2 terms of 3 years each. Earlier, the tenure of the chairman used to be in 3 terms of 2 years each.

New rules suggested in Dubai

The ICC board had a meeting in Dubai last weekend. During this, the board had suggested changes in the rules. The board had said that the tenure of the chairman and independent director would be made 3 years each in the future. Currently, the ICC chairman handles 3 terms of 2 years each. The ICC has also issued a statement on Monday, October 21. In this, it said that this new recommendation will be sent to the full and associate members for approval. This rule will come into force as soon as their permission is received. The ICC has not yet given any reason behind this recommendation. However, according to the report of Cricinfo, this decision has been taken to run the biggest cricket organization in a better way.

The ICC Board believes that this will provide security and stability to the chairman and independent director. He will be able to work freely without worrying about elections every 2 years. However, the total duration of the term will remain 6 years as before. 35-year-old Jai Shah will replace the current chairman Greg Barclay. Barclay was elected for the first time in 2020. Since then he has completed 2 out of 3 terms. At the same time, the post of independent director is lying vacant, the responsibility of which was with former president Indra Nooyi. All three of her terms were completed this year.

The ICC Chief Executives Committee (CEC) has changed the women's ranking rules. To get into the ICC rankings, any team will now have to play at least 8 matches in ODI and T20 formats every year. Earlier, the rule was to play 6 matches. The annual update of the rankings will be done from 1 October to 1 May. The ICC Board also approved the women's FTP i.e. Future Tour Programs for the 2025-2029 cycle in a meeting held in Dubai. It will be announced soon.
