Puja Vidhi on Bahula Ashtami 2024

Devotees go to Radha Kund and Shyama Kund in Vrindavan for religious rites on Bahula Ashtami in Kartik Maas. Mangal Arati marks the start of the day, and then there is an auspicious bath in the kunds. In order to get blessings for marital peace and spiritual development, devotees present Radha and Krishna with prayers, flowers, and diyas (lamps). They also recite holy mantras while doing parikrama, or circumambulation, around the kunds. On this day, cows are also revered. In the belief that it would aid in conception, childless couples visit Radha Kund for a holy plunge every year on Kartik Krishna Paksha Ashtami. They do a special pooja in the pond to ask Radharani for her blessings. Offering a white, uncooked pumpkin, called Petha or Kushmanda, covered in crimson fabric is part of the ceremony.

Devotees assemble for a lavish puja in the evening, which includes kirtans (spiritual talks) and bhajans (devotional music). Radha and Krishna are offered fruits, sweets, and tulsi leaves. A magnificent arati ceremony that lights up the kunds and the surrounding region marks the end of the rites. 2024 Bahula Ashtami: Katha

Bahula Ashtami honors the story of Bahula, a loyal cow that exhibited remarkable honesty and integrity. Bahula asked for time to say goodbye to her calf and master after being mauled by a tiger. The tiger consented, and the cow, calf, and brahmana master presented themselves as prey when she returned. The tiger was ready to eat them when Lord Krishna showed up and offered the tiger everlasting renown in exchange for saving their lives. After being moved by Bahula’s candor, Krishna set her free and renamed her Bahulavan, making her one of His consorts. Bahula received a holy forest and the honor of having a day, Bahulastami, dedicated to her in recognition of her altruistic deed.

Radha Kund and Shyama Kund were also created on this holy day. In an attempt to make amends for slaying a bull demon, Lord Krishna wanted to take a bath in a sacred river. But Radharani urged that He cleanse himself first. With the help of holy rivers, Radharani and her gopi pals dug a hole and filled it with water from the Manasi Ganga to construct Radha Kund, while Krishna made Syama Kund. The everlasting love between Radha and Krishna is symbolized by the holy union of their kunds, and Bahulastami honors the virtues of devotion, truth, and selflessness that characterize their sacred relationship.
