India vs. New Zealand 2nd Test: Ryan ten Doeschate, India’s assistant coach, alluded to a possible boost for the squad by indicating that Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, two important players, are expected to recuperate in time for Thursday’s second Test match against New Zealand.

The Rohit Sharma-led team will be under pressure to win the three-match series 2-1 in order to maintain their lead in the race to get to the World Test Championship final after suffering a humiliating loss to New Zealand in the first Test.

As the team looks to reverse the tide after losing in Bengaluru, the hosts are confident that Pant will return as a batsman and wicketkeeper.

On Day 2, when trying to stump Devon Conway in the 37th over of New Zealand’s innings, Pant injured his knee. While trying to field the ball, Pant was struck by it, which caused him to feel pain right away and prompted him to leave the field quickly.

For the rest of New Zealand’s first innings and 27.4 overs into their second innings, Dhruv Jurel took over as wicketkeeper behind the stumps, replacing Pant.

“Rishabh is competent. Rohit (Sharmna) mentioned it the other day, I believe. He was experiencing some little knee soreness at the conclusion of his range of motion. However, ten Doeschate assured the reporters, “I hope he’ll be fine to keep in the Test as well.”

In the meantime, Gill missed the first Test match between New Zealand and India because of stiffness in his neck.

“Gill appears to be available for this test.” He batted in Bangalore last week, had some nets, and is a little uncomfortable, but I believe he’ll be OK for the test,” he said.

As for the first Test outcome, New Zealand easily chased down the 107-run mark in the fourth innings, establishing a 1-0 lead in the series, despite India’s valiant comeback in the third innings.
