The 2001 film Ek Rishtaa: The Bond of Love is considered an all time favourite film. directed by Suneel Darshan this films stars an array of actors from Bollywood like Amitabh Bachchan Akshay Kumar Karisma Kapoor Raakhee and Juhi Chawla and many others. This film went on to become the seventh highest grossing Hindi film despite getting mixed reviews. When Amitabh Bachchan asked for a role in Ek Rishtaa While this film marked the second collaboration with Akshay Kumar and Suneel at that moment. The former was facing a back-to-back flops in Hindi cinema. Co-incidentally Amitabh Bachchan contacted Suneel Darshan for a role in Ek Rishtaa. Suneel recalled the moment and said I was once driving to my office in Andheri. During this I got a call. When I picked it up the voice I heard gave me shivers. The person on the other side of the call said Hello Sunil this is Amitabh here. Suneel further recalled As soon as I heard that I said ‘Sir one minute’. I quickly parked my car to speak to him. He then said ‘I heard you’re making a film and I would like to be in it. If there’s a role for me please let me know.’ I was stunned that someone like Amitabh Bachchan is asking for a role. This whole episode was quite encouraging for me. I went and narrated the story to him. He then asked me to give a copy of the script to him. He started the prep for the movie and that’s how we started Ek Rishtaa. Suneel Darshan by that time had already designated roles to Akshay Amitabh Karisma and Juhi. However Suneel missed to find the perfect actor to play the role of a mother in Ek Rishtaa. Suneel revealed that Hema Malini was his first choice but it didnt turn out that well. Next on the list was veteran actress Raakhee. Suneel said I approached Raakhee ji to play the role of the mother in the film. She agreed to do the role but then placed a condition before me. She said I won’t work from 8:45 pm to 10:15 pm. I won’t be available for this 1.5 hours so make your schedule accordingly. I was like what is this new thing. I asked her ‘What’s the problem but?’ She said ‘Because I want to watch Kaun Banega Crorepati. I went and told this to Amit ji. He was like don’t turn her down. Bring her to sets. I will change my schedule. I work for Karan from 9am-6pm. I will come to you at 7 and shoot until 2. To adjust Rakhi ji’s schedule Amit Ji said just put a TV and cable in her van there. Don’t let her move out of the set. She can happily watch and then shoot said Amitabh Bachchan. Ek Rishtaa: The Bond of Love was completed in just four month.
