Indian Railways is going to run hydrogen trains in the country. This train runs 90 km between Jind and Panipat in Haryana. Will run. 360 kg of hydrogen will be filled in the engine for one cycle. The construction work of hydrogen plant is also going on at a fast pace.

Global agencies have given approval regarding hydrogen safety. Indian Railways has awarded the work of retro fitment of existing Diesel Electric Multiple Units (DEMU) for Hydrogen Fuel. There is a plan to make the prototype train at ICF Chennai.

Plan to run 35 hydrogen trains

Dilip Kumar said that Indian Railways has planned 35 hydrogen trains under Hydrogen Heritage, in which the cost of each train is estimated at Rs 80 crore and land infrastructure is estimated at Rs 70 crore for heritage and hill routes.

The construction of the plant has started near the GRP police station at the railway junction. In this, a design has been prepared to collect the water from the roofs of the buildings including the entire campus, hydron will be prepared from this water and the train will be run from it. Work is going on for this. A three thousand kilogram hydrogen storage tank will be built in the plant and only two trains will be able to run in the first phase. The excess hydrogen can be transported to other places with the help of tankers. The construction of the Hydrogen Gas plant at the railway junction started in 2022 at a cost of Rs 118 crore. This gas plant is being set up in an area of ​​two thousand meters.

the engine will release steam

Engines running on hydrogen gas will emit steam and water instead of smoke. The train will make 60 percent less noise than traditional diesel engines. Its speed and capacity to carry passengers will also be equal to that of a diesel train.
