An inmate released early from a 10-year prison sentence for money laundering was being met by a relative outside jail in a £250,000 Lamborghini Urus.

The prisoner's cousin, who would only give his first name, Ahmed, turned heads as he pulled up in the luxury supercar in front of a crowd of friends and families awaiting the release of inmates outside HMP Wandsworth.

The Labour Government is . Today's release is the second phase after 1,700 inmates were freed in September.

Ahmed said his cousin, aged 50, was being released after serving four years of a 12-year sentence imposed in 2020 for laundering £3million.

The 27-year-old, who said he spent seven months on remand in Wandsworth himself before being acquitted of ABH, told Express.co.uk his cousin was being released eight months early.

He said: "He was sentenced to 12 years which was reduced to 10 so he was due out in eight months anyway.

"The conditions in there are very bad, there are rats in the cells, and the prison officers can do anything they like and they treat you like dogs. Sometimes they take your food and you get nothing.

"A lot of people lose their minds in there. They self-harm and take drugs. My cousin had a stroke in there so he is allowed to wear sliders and has a crutch, but that's it."

The cousin said his relative has 10 children and the family can't wait until he's out, adding: "He will celebrate at home with his family that it's a taste of freedom and fresh air."

Ahmed said that in prison, the smallest things in life become the finest things in life and you think about them all the time.

He explained that the Lamborghini belongs to his family's business, which he described as "concierge services".

Hundreds of prisoners were being released early on Tuesday, with one former inmate thanking Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Daniel Dowling-Brooks said "big up Keir Starmer" as he was celebrating with friends, his mum and sisterx, who picked him up in a convoy of a white Bentley and black Mercedes G-wagon outside of HMP Swaleside.

The 29-year-old told reporters he had been in prison for seven years for kidnap and grievous bodily harm of someone who owed money to his friend, and was leaving jail seven weeks earlier than planned.

He said the first thing he would do is "go to McDonalds, go to my hostel and follow all the rules". On his crime he said he regrets it and feels bad, adding he would now spend more time with his two children and his friends.

On being released, he added: "I feel good man. I feel happy."
