This is the fastest double-century in the history of List A cricket. It was made by Chad Bowes of New Zealand. While Canterbury and Otago were playing in the Ford Trophy, Bowes scored his first double-ton. It only took him 103 tosses. So, he broke the record that India’s N Jagadeesan and Australia’s Travis Head shared for the fastest List A double-century off 114 deliveries.

Bowes hit 27 fours and 7 sixes in his inning as the first hitter before he was caught LBW on 205 runs off 110 pitches. Canterbury got to 343/9 from 50 overs thanks to his record-breaking efforts. They got their next-best score from Zakary Foulkes, who hit 49 runs off of 46 balls. He was the eighth hitter and was not out.

It’s crazy that Canterbury’s score was 257/5 when Bowes hit 200. The 32-year-old did get hurt, and he had to go to the hospital a few times during his time on the field for back problems.

Bowes is the third New Zealand batter in men’s cricket history to score a 200+ score. The others were Jamie How (222 in the Ford Trophy in 2013) and Martin Guptill (237* at the 2015 ODI World Cup).

Bowes played baseball for South Africa at the U-19 level. He led players like Quinton de Kock and Theunis de Bruyn in the 2012 Junior World Cup.

He moved to New Zealand in 2015 for a fresh start because he wasn’t getting enough chances to improve his playing career in South Africa.

The move paid off big time because he went on to play his first game for New Zealand against Australia in March 2023. In the six ODIs and eleven T20Is he has played so far, he has hit a total of 286 runs, with two half-centuries.

“It has been a hell of a journey from South Africa to New Zealand,” Bowes told ESPNcricinfo before his start in New Zealand last year. “Probably not that script that I thought I was going to write for my career.”
