With a career spanning over two decades, Arpita has appeared in over 50 films across Bengali, Hindi, Bhojpuri and Oriya cinema, making her a prime choice to play the role of the legendary Gauhar Jaan. He has mastered classical singing from Ustad Rashid Khan.

Gauhar Jaan was born in 1873. In Banaras, her mother made the bold choice of starting afresh and sending Gauhar into the world of classical music and dance. Gauhar had taken classical training from the great masters of his time. He learned Kathak from Bindadin Maharaj and also took training in Khayal from Bhaiya Ganpat Rao. He learned Drupada from Srijan Bai. Not only this, Gauhar gained expertise in Kirtan from Shri Ramesh Chandra Das.
