Brake Fade: Brake failure of the vehicle is considered to be a major cause of road accidents, but there is another reason which is called brake fade. This situation is more dangerous than brake failure because in this the brakes do not fail, but still it becomes difficult to stop the vehicle at high speed, which can lead to serious accidents.

What is Brake Fade?

Brake fade is completely different from brake failure. This happens when the vehicle needs to apply brakes frequently, especially on hilly roads. Brake shoes get very hot due to frequent brake use, and when they get too hot, their effectiveness is reduced. This means that even when you press the brakes, the car does not slow down or stop. This process is called break fade.

Difference between brake fade and brake failure

Brake Failure: In this the brake system stops working completely. This can be fixed by a mechanic.

Brake fade: In this, the brakes overheat and stop working temporarily, but the system is fine. This problem may resolve on its own after some time, but a mechanic cannot fix it immediately.

Due to brake fade

The main reason for brake fade is overheating. When the brakes are used excessively, especially on hilly or sloping roads, the brake shoes or brake pads become hot. This can result in the brake fluid boiling, which reduces brake system pressure and causes the brakes to malfunction.

Ways to avoid brake fade

Use brakes sparingly: When driving on hilly or sloping roads, use brakes only when necessary. This will help in keeping the brake shoes cool.

Stop the vehicle at a flat place: If possible, stop the vehicle when you find a flat road and allow the brakes to cool down, so that there is no problem of brake fade.

Get service done on time: Regular servicing of the vehicle is necessary. Especially get the condition of the brake fluid checked from time to time and if there is any leak or problem, get it rectified immediately.

Do not use brakes unnecessarily: Avoid pressing the brakes repeatedly, especially during long journeys or in heavy traffic. This habit will give the brake system a chance to work better.

Brake fade can be a serious problem, but it can be prevented with caution and correct driving techniques. Be cautious while driving in hilly areas, use brakes sparingly and keep the vehicle serviced regularly. In this way you can avoid dangerous situations like brake fade.
