Who are ASHA workers?

ASHA workers, i.e. Accredited Social Health Activists, work to provide health services to the people in rural India. ASHA means “hope” in Hindi, which also reflects the purpose of their work. ASHA women workers provide services like raising health awareness, helping in maternal-child health care, vaccination, nutrition and sanitation to the communities. In 2022, ASHA workers were honored with the WHO Director-General's Global Health Leaders Award, which recognizes their contributions globally. ASHA workers provide vital services in addressing health problems, providing first aid, antenatal care, child vaccination, and women's health.

Cyclone Dana made landfall on Bhitarkanika and Dhamra coasts of Odisha on 25 October. Apart from this, there were strong winds (110 km/hr) and heavy rain in the area. Roads have been disrupted due to trees falling on roads in coastal districts like Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Balasore. According to the information, relief and restoration work is going on at a fast pace, and NDRF teams are busy clearing the roads. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi said that till now there is no news of any casualty and all possible help is being provided to the affected areas.
