There have been a lot of speculations regarding MS Dhoni’s IPL future. The former Indian skipper has been a pivotal part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since the IPL began back in 2008. In a recent promotional event, Dhoni addressed his IPL future.

The legendary Indian cricketer confirmed his participation in the upcoming edition of the IIPL. CSK will have the option to retain Dhoni as an uncapped player for a mere 4 crore, thanks to a rule which BCCI decided to revive after initially scrapping it in 2021.

“I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play. When you play cricket like a professional sport, it becomes difficult to enjoy it just like a game. That’s what I want to do. It’s not easy. The emotions keep coming, the commitments are there. I want to enjoy the game for the next few years,” Dhoni said as quoted by The Times of India.

However, it is unlikely that Dhoni will captain the Chennai-based franchise in the upcoming IPL season as the mantle was handed to Ruturaj Gaikwad last season.

Dhoni made it clear he tries to keep himself fit for the next 9 months in order to be involved for 2 and a half months of IPL.

“I have to keep myself fit for nine months, so that I can play two and a half months of IPL. You need to plan it out, but at the same time chill a bit,” Dhoni said.
