The Petrapole Land Port is the biggest Land Port in South Asia. It is also an important trade and business hub between India and Bangladesh. It is one of the most important land border points between India and Bangladesh for both trade and people traveling between the two countries. This Land Port handles almost 70% of the value of all land-based trade between the two countries. Petrapole Land Port is also India’s eighth biggest foreign customs port, and it helps over 23.5 lakh people travel between India and Bangladesh every year.

The New Passenger Terminal Building at Land Port Petrapole is an important piece of infrastructure for the area that will make traveling between the two countries easier. It offers safety, speed, and comfort for all users thanks to its strong construction and cutting-edge technology.

The PTB at Petrapole was designed to look like one of the world’s busiest transportation hubs. It has all the latest amenities, like VIP areas, a duty-free shop, a basic medical facility, an infant/baby feeding room, food and drink outlets, and more.
It can handle up to 20,000 passengers per day and will have security, immigration, and customs all in one building. It has a large built-up area of 59,800 square meters and uses flap barriers to make entry and exit systems that are automatic. With this big project, infrastructure and service standards will be changed forever. This will make traveling between India and Bangladesh better and make it a key hub in Asia.

The two countries decided that Maitri Dwar would be a joint cargo gate at the zero line. Mr. Amit Shah laid the first stone on May 9, 2023.

Because Land Port Petrapole sees between 600 and 700 cars crossing the border every day, LPAI built a new shared second shipping gate called Maitri Dwar along the border between India and Bangladesh.
The goal of this special gate for moving luggage is to make it easier and faster for things to move between the two countries.

It is expected that the introduction of Maitri Dwar will greatly speed up the release and clearance of goods at the border, which will make trade more efficient. The gate has modern features like ANPR, boom barriers, facial recognition cameras, and ways for Indian and Bangladeshi cars to enter and leave the area that are managed by access. It will be a gate that is only used for moving goods.
