Iran-Israel War: One day after Israel launched pinpoint attacks on Iranian military sites in Tehran, the US reiterated its support for Israel’s security on Sunday. According to the IDF, the Israeli fighter planes conducted a three-wave strike into Iranian airspace, hitting many military installations, including air defense radars and other key sites.

Iran promised to respond and warned Israel of a proportionate response in the days ahead, according to the semi-government news agency IRNA, even if it played down the harm. “Israel’s strikes should mark the end of this exchange,” the US said, warning Iran against escalating tensions further.

Using the social networking site X, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin warned Iran not to attack Israel again.

“I discussed the Israel Defense Forces’ nighttime precise attacks on Iranian military sites with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant today. I emphasized the United States’ unwavering support for Israel’s right to self-defense and its unwavering commitment to its security,” he added.

He said that the US is in a strong position to protect its assets and soldiers across the area.

“Iran should not make the mistake of responding to Israel’s strikes, which should mark the end of this exchange,” he said.

“I also underscored the opportunities that exist to use diplomacy to dial down tensions in the region, including with a hostage release and ceasefire deal in Gaza and an agreement that allows civilians on both sides of the Israel-Lebanon border to return safely to their homes,” Austin said.

While the United States, Germany, and Britain urged Tehran to refrain from escalating the confrontation, Israel warned Iran that it would “face severe consequences” if it decided to retaliate to the attacks.

However, Iran affirmed its “right and duty” to defend itself, and Hezbollah, its partner in Lebanon, took credit for firing rocket barrages against five northern Israeli civilian districts.

On Saturday, 80 rockets were launched from the other side of the border, according to the Israeli military.

In response, the Israeli army issued evacuation advisories for two areas in southern Beirut, while Hezbollah issued threats for over a dozen specific places in Israel.
