Jet Plane Fuel:  If you think that the ordinary petrol used in jet planes and vehicles is the same, then today we are going to tell you about it in detail.

Jet Plane Fuel:  If you have been thinking till now that the petrol used in ordinary vehicles is put in jet planes, then you are wrong. Actually, the jet engine is different from the engine of ordinary vehicles and is much more powerful. In such a situation, a special type of fuel is used for this, which is called Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) or Jet Fuel. This fuel is different from the petrol of vehicles and it has been specially designed for jet engines so that it can work stably even at high altitudes and cold temperatures.

In India, the price of ATF is higher than petrol and is around Rs 100-120 per liter. However, these prices may change according to time, place, tax policy and international oil market.

Structure and Purity:

Jet fuel is primarily based on kerosene and many special additives are added to it so that it can burn stably at high altitudes. Ordinary petrol is a mixture of light hydrocarbons, while ATF contains complex hydrocarbons, which gives it a higher energy density.

Combustion Temperature:

ATF has a higher flash point (the temperature at which it starts to burn) than petrol, making it suitable for use in extremely cold temperatures and at high altitudes. Petrol's low flash point makes it evaporate quickly and is flammable, which is not safe for jet engines.

Energy Density:

ATF has a higher energy density than petrol, meaning it provides more energy in the same amount of fuel. This is why it is perfect for long distance flights. Petrol is not suitable for aircrafts due to its low energy density.

Stability at height:

Jet fuel is designed so that it does not freeze at low temperatures and remains stable at pressures at high altitudes. Petrol is not stable for use at high altitudes and can freeze at cold temperatures, which can be extremely dangerous during flight.

Additives:

Many types of additives are added to ATF, such as anti-freeze and anti-oxidants, so that it does not freeze in the fuel tank and its life remains long. Ordinary petrol does not have so many additives, because there are not so many dangerous situations for it.
