The DMK has dismissed Vijay as merely a component of the BJP’s secondary faction, while its ally, the VCK, has expressed approval of the remarks regarding ‘power sharing.’

In response to actor Vijay’s pointed criticism of the DMK, characterizing it as a “family looting Tamil Nadu under the guise of the Dravidian model,” the ruling Dravidian party on Monday relegated him to the status of the “C team” of the BJP.

The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), a significant ally of the DMK, expressed approval of his dedication to equitable power distribution within the government.

In his address at the inaugural state-level conference of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Sunday evening, Vijay articulated a clear stance against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), characterizing it as the ideological adversary. He asserted, “Our political opponent is a self-serving family that exploits Tamil Nadu, cloaked in the guise of the Dravidian model and invoking the revered names of ‘Periyar’ EV Ramasamy, the rationalist Dravidian icon, and Anna, the founder of DMK, CN Annadurai.”

Subsequently, he unveiled the significant proposition of ‘power sharing’ with allies during the formation of the government for the 2026 assembly elections. The unwavering opposition of both the DMK and the AIADMK to power sharing with their allies has ignited a renewed discourse, particularly given the state’s historical absence of a coalition government.

In response to the actor’s characterization of the DMK as corrupt, seasoned party member and senior minister S Regupathy remarked, “Vijay’s party does not represent the ‘A’ team or ‘B’ team, but rather the ‘C’ team of the BJP.” His primary objective is to fortify the saffron party through the diminishment of the AIADMK. He has focused his efforts on the DMK with the intention of attracting the votes of the AIADMK. Consequently, he has refrained from expressing any disapproval of the AIADMK.

In a conversation with journalists in Pudukottai, he further downplayed his declaration regarding power sharing, remarking, “Let him first secure victory in the election and assume control.”

TKS Elangovan, another leader from the DMK, compared the TVK to yet another party that has emerged to contest the DMK’s longstanding presence over the past 75 years. “The DMK has observed numerous parties that have succumbed to obsolescence.” The DMK has never faced a substantiated corruption charge. He asserted that the charges lack foundation and defended the concept of dynastic succession within the party, elucidating that “Udhayanidhi is demonstrating his capabilities through diligent effort.”

Nonetheless, the VCK led by Thol Thirumavalavan, MP, appears to diverge from the DMK regarding Vijay’s entry into politics and his claims concerning power distribution within the government.

VCK deputy general secretary Aadhav Arjuna has expressed his approval in a ‘X’ post, stating, “Supportive voices regarding our position on power sharing and governance have begun to emerge.” The future trajectory of Tamil Nadu politics hinges on this matter, and Vijay has articulated the importance of recognizing it as a fundamental democratic right.

In a thoughtful assessment, senior VCK leader and ideologue, D Ravikumar MP, remarked, “Vijay has only recently entered the political arena and has held his party’s inaugural conference, which can be likened to a preview of a film.” Let us observe how he translates his words into action. The upcoming elections are still over a year and a half in the future. There exists no necessity for either celebration or disparagement of him.

Another Dalit leader, K. Krishnasamy of the ‘Puthiya Thamizhagam,’ a member of the AIADMK front, has expressed his congratulations to Vijay for the successful organization of the conference and has acknowledged Vijay’s stance on the matter of power sharing. “Over the course of the last 75 years, no political party has expressed a willingness to engage in power-sharing arrangements with others,” he stated.

The BJP exhibits a dismissive attitude towards Vijay’s party, yet it expresses satisfaction regarding the actor’s critique of the DMK, identifying it as the political adversary of the TVK. However, it struggles to comprehend the actor’s designation of the saffron parivaar as his ideological adversaries and his insistence that it embodies fascism.

“The superficiality of your political stance has been laid bare in just a single day.” “Your address resembled a mere recitation of a pre-prepared script, executed with an exaggerated flair,” remarked R. Sreenivasan, the state BJP general secretary.
