This modification involves an increase in the wheat allotment at the expense of a slight reduction in rice distribution.

A significant change in the food grain distribution system, set to be implemented in government ration shops in Uttar Pradesh starting November 1, will alter the allocation of grains for ration cardholders, aiming for a more equitable distribution. Under the previous arrangement, cardholders received 3 kg of rice and 2 kg of wheat per unit. However, beginning next month, the distribution will be modified to provide each cardholder with 2.5 kg of both wheat and rice. This adjustment marks a notable shift in how rations are allocated.

Additionally, the quota for Antyodaya cardholders will see changes. Instead of receiving 21 kg of rice and 14 kg of wheat, Antyodaya beneficiaries will now receive 18 kg of rice and 17 kg of wheat per card. This modification involves an increase in the wheat allotment at the expense of a slight reduction in rice distribution.
In the Bankeganj area alone, there are approximately 46,718 eligible household and Antyodaya cardholders, including 6,423 Antyodaya consumers. Gaurav Kumar Sharma, Supply Inspector for Gola Tehsil, confirmed that all ration dealers have been instructed to implement the new distribution system starting in November. Rations will be allocated to all cardholders under this updated framework.

Ration dealer Anuj Kumar also noted that directives regarding the new system have been issued, ensuring that the distribution process for November will adhere to these new guidelines. This transition is expected to provide some relief to ration cardholders.

As part of this rollout, the state government is urging all cardholders to visit their designated ration shops and complete their e-KYC to avoid any future complications when collecting their rations. The distribution of free government food grains at subsidised rates aims to support households and improve food security in the region.
