NewDelhi: Among the Indian Premier League franchises some enjoy an especially devoted fan base—most notably Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. As the IPL 2025 retention deadline approaches on October 31 attention naturally centers on these teams. Official broadcasters will reveal the retention lists in a special show starting at 4:30 PM IST though reports have already begun speculating on potential retentions. With a mega auction on the horizon its expected that several big names may be released adding to the anticipation. According to a report by ESPN Cricinfo Chennai Super Kings have finalized their five retained players for IPL 2025: MS Dhoni captain Ruturaj Gaikwad Ravindra Jadeja Shivam Dube and Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana. This decision indicates that key players like Rachin Ravindra Devon Conway and others are expected to be released. The report further mentions that these five retentions will cost Chennai Super Kings at least Rs 65 crore from their overall purse of Rs 120 crore. Interestingly MS Dhoni is expected to be retained as an uncapped player offering CSK additional flexibility in their budget. Although the BCCI and franchises have yet to confirm anything the rumor mill is in full swing with prominent players grabbing headlines. At a recent event when former Indian captain MS Dhoni was asked about the ongoing speculation he responded with a humorous remark showing his trademark wit amidst the frenzy. Everyone is a team owner now Dhoni said at the event. Whatever player they desire whichever player is going up for auction and whoever they decide to purchase we should be prepared for it. IPL auction works in mysterious ways. he added. Dhoni who captained Chennai Super Kings to five IPL titles recently confirmed that he will be taking part in IPL 2025. The veteran wicket-keeper batter is expected to be retained by Chennai Super Kings for just Rs 4 crores thanks to a rule that was brought back by the BCCI for this auction. According to the rule an Indian cricket team player will be considered uncapped if he has not played for the national side in the last five years.
