The central government has given Diwali gifts to lakhs of pensioners of the country. The government on Wednesday issued an order to give additional installment of dearness relief to pensioners. On October 16, the Union Cabinet had approved additional installment of three percent Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) to central government employees as well as pensioners. This increase was made from July 1, 2024. Let us also tell you what kind of order has been given by the government.
The Ministry of Personnel said in the statement that the Department of Pension and Pensioners' Welfare has issued an order for all Central Government pensioners/family pensioners on October 30, 2024. According to the statement, now central government pensioners including family pensioners are entitled to receive higher amount of dearness allowance and dearness relief. Under this, they will get 53 percent dearness allowance and dearness relief instead of 50 percent of their basic pension/family pension. This increase will be effective from July 1. That means pensioners will get the outstanding amount due to the increased allowance for the last four months. At present, the number of retired pensioners from the Central Government in the country is around 65 lakh. Due to increase in dearness allowance and dearness relief, the burden on the central government will increase by Rs 9448 crore.
After the cabinet decision on October 16, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had given information saying that the government has increased the dearness allowance and dearness relief of central government employees and pensioners. This increase has been made by 3 percent. After which dearness allowance and dearness relief have increased from 50 percent to 53 percent. More than 1.14 crore employees and pensioners of the country will benefit from this. However, this is the first time after Covid that the Central Government has increased the dearness allowance and dearness relief by 3 percent. Earlier, 4 percent increase was being given by the government.
