The first World Cities Day was organized in the year 2014. It is said that, in the year 1976, the Second United Nations Conference on Human Settlements implemented the UNGA decision to establish World Cities Day. Many organizations work to celebrate this day, including the UN-Habitat program which promotes the development of sustainable cities in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11.
