Three Idiots… is a film that is considered a cult classic of today's times. This is a film that has everything. Love, friendship, comedy and lots of emotional scenes. If you are asked which is the most emotional scene of this film, you will be confused as to how to name one, because there are many such scenes that touch the heart. Be it the scene of two friends running to find a friend or the scene of Mona Singh's baby delivery. Every scene of this film is special. There is another such scene that gives goosebumps and that is the scene of the suicide of the character Joy Lobo of the film.
Ali Fazal has played the character of Joy Lobo in the film. Ali is a capable actor and we can talk about it separately, but he has brought life to this small role. Joy's entry, the guitar in his hand, and his death scene... Joy's character appears on screen for a very short time, but for whatever time he appears, he dominates the entire screen. Joy's death scene comes at the end of the song All is Well in the film, which in itself shows how amazing a director Rajkumar Hirani is... But there is another character in the film, knowing about which you will be convinced why Raju's filmography seems perfect.
Madhav Vaze has played the role of Joy Lobo i.e. Ali Fazal's father in the movie 3 Idiots. Madhav's character may appear on screen for a few moments but the innocence on his face is memorable. Do you know that to find this character, Raju Hirani postponed the shoot of the film for a year. The casting of the film was done and the film was all set to shoot, but Raju was unable to find an actor for Joy's father. Raju wanted this character to be played by someone with whom the public would connect at once and never forget the innocence of that face, but the problem was that Raju was unable to find that face.
Raju Hirani's casting team took auditions of many people to perfect this small role but no one was found as per the person Raju wanted. In an interview, Rajkumar Hirani said that he saw many faces for this role but he was not able to find that face. Raju said that he and his team were getting very frustrated but still Raju kept postponing the shoot of the film for almost a year until he found the person he was looking for. Raju said that one day he was sitting in his office when his eyes fell on a magazine lying on the table.
Raju said that a poster of a Marathi play from the 1970s was printed in the magazine. There was a child in that poster. Raju told his team that today this child's age would probably be around that character's age. There was the same innocence on that child's face that Raju had been looking for for so many days. Raju asked his team to find that child and thus Raju and his team met Marathi theatre actor Madhav Vaze.
Madhav may not be talked about much in Hindi cinema, but he is a well-known face in Marathi theatre. Madhav works in the field of acting and direction in Marathi theatre. He has been a part of many big plays. Aamir liked Madhav's work in this film so much that Aamir even talked about doing theatre with Madhav. Amazingly, a director kept the film on hold for a year in search of a face, and that face was such that after seeing it on screen, one feels that nothing wrong should happen with it. Madhav breathed life into a small character. This character of his is one of those characters that will always be remembered.
